    In Full Mom Mode:

    Dear Senators Clinton and Obama,

Please promise me you know what you're doing, that both of you really are present enough to be a good president and neither one of you will do anything that might deliver this election to McCain. It's not so much that I hate John McCain, because I don't. He's a patriot who served his country nobly throughout his adult life. I don't even hold his widely acknowledged anger issues against him. Sometimes a little righteous indignation is highly motivating, as long as he demonstrates better impulse control than the inmate who's been running the asylum for the last almost eight years. We just really can't afford to stay on our current path. I mean, we literally can't afford it, can't pay for it, don't have the money to wage endless, expensive wars that, more than anything else, prove the points of those who hate us, fan the flames of anti-Americanism, make the world more dangerous for us and us lame broke. Haven't we had enough of leaders who say one thing and do the opposite?

Barack, Hillary, please just promise us you have a plan, that you'll drag this out only long enough to keep yourselves and your party atop the news cycle to fill this gap 'til the conventions, but that you'll do it without drawing too much blood. Then, find a way to make a true and lasting peace for the good, not just of your party, but of your country. Walk the damn walk. There sure has been enough talk. You can prove what great presidents y'all would be, prove it, by bringing peace and harmony to the Democratic Party. At this stage I don't care which one of you is atop the ticket, or if the other is on it, just that, whatever happens, it is genuinely without animosity (or you do a grand job of making it look that way - and that you make some important place for John Edwards). First, you must make peace. Kiss and make flipping up.

Demonstrate what a great president we're going to have, 'cause we're going to need one with the mess this disastrous administration has left for you to clean up. If y'all can come out of this forging party unity I'll believe you're more than just ordinary presidential candidates, you're patriots and diplomats, totally prepared to meet the challenges of the presidency.

I've been watching John Adams on HBO and I'm deeply touched by the enormous sacrifices our founding fathers and mothers (and their families) made when they gave birth to this country Their wisdom and commitment are now so clear in the difficult choices that yielded our republic, as well as in the well-chosen words that became their Declaration of Independence and our Constitution. We need the next president to respect the foundation on which this country is built and care about individual rights. Put the good of the nation ahead of your own goals and ambitions, and please start now.

So, stop pointing out each others' weak spots, or else the boys and girls on the other side of the aisle will be laughing all the way to the White House. Show us you're ready before day one.  Really be living conduits for change. Take the high road. Both of you. Work it out. Senators, I believe that you each think you'd be a great president. I don't care which one of you it is. The good news is that you have before you a great chance to show us how it's done.

Either that, or both of you go to time out.

    Yours, in Momness,

    Sophmom

Here's hoping they're reading. If there's one thing we don't need, it's 4 more years of a Republican presidency, especially given the power the next president may have in determining the makeup of the Supreme Court (to say nothing of all the other excellent reasons to which you alluded). --W--'s entry today cited a poll though suggesting that a significant number of each Dem's supporters would vote for McCain over their candidates Democratic rival. Sheesh.

Sophmom, Awesome! Copy and paste this to their addresses over at congress.org. They really need to hear this.

I think these two candidates could do with a bit of Momness right about now. They both need to seriously get their acts together...like yesterday Kudos, Soph...tell it like it is.

AMEN. And amen again. Of course, me being biased, I want Hillary to drop out. But even if they decide to take this all the way to the end, the rhetoric has to stop. The backhanded insults have to stop. And most especially, Hillary has to stop making it sound like Obama is lame next to McCain.

John, I have to hope those polls are wrong, most especially the numbers that show Hillary's supporters defecting if Obama is nominated (which appears to be most likely). Unfortunately, I do believe that there is an intangible and completely unreasonable anti-Hillary sentiment that would make many Obama supporters choose McCain. I can't explain it. It makes ZERO sense to me but I just know so many people who call themselves progressive, who irrationally HATE her. Bill Maher remarks, of these people, that it says much more about them than it does her. I tend to agree with him.... AND, YOU RIGHT. We are toast if McCain makes the next two Supreme Court appointments. God, help us.

Thanks, Catty. I'm hoping they'll find it right here. The BEST thing about Blog-City (other than our fair Mayoress) is the whopping job they do at optimizing us for search. We shall see.

Thanks, dear Fool. I hope all is well in your world and I hope these doofuses (sp?) are paying attention to the Big Picture. I had a dream about Obama last night, that he came to speak at our (who "our" was, I'm not sure) little gathering. He was tired and I noticed he had one cloudy, filmy eye, in which the iris didn't show at all. When he realized that I had seen his bad eye, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a handful of eye covers (think clip on sunglasses meets contact lens) and popped one in, but it fell out and his cloudy eye showed again. Weird. I also dreamed that *the other* pottery studio where I work (which doesn't exist) called to see if I wanted them to keep my shelf. After waking, I remembered that I dreamt, maybe a month ago, about going to work at another studio where I had old friends. Serial dreams? Ain't it grand?

Karoli, I'm not one to think they need to keep it a love fest. Fact is, Obama needs to steel himself for the Swift Boaters to unload on him in the last months of the campaign, but we don't need to be arming them now. I do not think she should drop out now. She's a valid candidate with a substantial support base in both votes and delegates. This can be good for the dems if it's done right because, just like Hillary and Barack took all the air of the MSM from Edwards, their continued contest can do the same to McCain. They can say he's standing by looking *presidential* but they're the ones getting all the coverage, and that's good for the party in the fall, as long as they don't 1) lose sight of the Prize, 2) draw too much blood and 3) their peace making appears genuine.

Thanks, y'all, for stopping by. As usual, I'm rambling into comments. Thanks soooo much for giving me the opportunity. Happy Saturday! I'm off to run errands and make pots.

    Peace, love and happiness, y'all.

Thanks for sharing on the dreamscapes, Soph. The Obama snippet is really a rather cool-creepy, and the notation of your "other pottery studio" and the serial dreams hits home for me. I have a composite city that I often return to in dreams that is a hodgepodge of places that I've walked in my waking life. The setting even has residents. Kind of my own private Royston Varsey.

    :)

Beautifully stated, Sophmom. I am in complete agreement- especially the request to PLEASE make some important place for John Edwards!! I was so sorry to see him go. And while I am supporting Barack Obama, there is no question but that Hillary Clinton could be a fine leader. But the thought of McCain stepping in surrounding himself with more Republicans is simply too dreadful to bear thinking about. And yet, that is not an impossibility. Unfortunately. I am enjoying your blog very much, and have visited some of the links, all great sites. I will return to read more of your writings and to visit more of your linked sites. It's fascinating and it's fun! Skordamou

Way cool, Fool. I certainly don't have a city constructed in my subconscious, but this is not my first serial dream experience either... *and* that whole Obama eye thing was out there. I love dreams. I don't get enough sleep, which limits my dreaming and awareness of it, but I try hard to pay attention to them, although remembering is sometimes a challenge (our wise Capt. has encouraged this). Years ago, I kept a dream journal, which helped. Thanks for sharing right back.

Skor! It's great to see you and thanks for the kind words. It's been a while since we talked. Y'all, just FYI, Skordamou is another John from Cincinnati lover and worthy blogger. We met on the JfC boards at hbo.com. Thanks for coming by!

I had a nice day at the studio today. Didn't push myself but enjoyed the company. Put 14 fully dry mugs on the to-be-bisque-fired shelves. I also trimmed and put handles on two (smallish - or they will be by the time they're fired) pitchers. That's the last of the B-Mix (a porcelainous stoneware). I cleaned up and bought a bag of porcelain. I can't wait. I'm really impressed with the quality of work coming out of the students and studio time people (I am the latter). There's a regular Saturday crowd, that varies a little from time to time, but they're all quite good. It's a nice creative vibe. I worked at this studio for many years, years ago, but only know one of them from the old days. One of the advantages of this particular studio over most community art centers is that it has a gas kiln, allowing the glaze firing to be done at very high temperatures and in reduction (shutting off the oxygen supply to the fire and pulling the oxygen molecules out of the clay). It's just plain better, the end result considerably richer and more beautiful.

There I go babbling again. It's quiet and has been a lovely, rainy day. We turned the lights out fron 8-9 but not the TVs or computer. Sorry. *sigh*

    Happy Saturday Night, y'all. :D

One more thing: What in the world was I thinking when I picked Xavier to beat UCLA???? My brackets are toast. At least my champion pick (Memphis) is still in it. *knocks wood*

Well said! I seriously don't hink you need to worry about those polls too much. Though I have said in the past I could never vote for HC , I along with many others who felt the same way will do anything to keep McCain and another 4 yrs. of Bush out. I am afraid though that if HC steals the nomination that serious trouble will develop.

Obama has drawn the youth and many independants along with republicans. Most of the republicans that HC has were those out to destroy Obama and will be changing back to MC Cain come Nov. I am worried, very worried as you are. Our children and grandchildren are depending on us to come out of this and move on to a better future.

Mary, thanks so much for your thoughtful comment and for speaking your heart as an activist. You make some great points and your recent posts on your blog make many excellent points too (excellent vid about Obama's race speech). I agree that it appears, at this moment in time, that Obama has won, that his nomination seems to be the will of the people. I will also add that it wasn't six months ago that McCain's candidacy seemed dead. We have a unique opportunity to see the entire process unfold for the first time in many decades and I think we need to allow that to happen. In today's screenshot, neither one of these candidates have a clear path to nomination. I don't think it's neccessarily fair to characterize Hillary's chances as only by "stealing" the nomination. I agree that Barack appears at this juncture to be the best choice, and that there really is an opportunity here for a transformative administration, *but* I think there were as many Republicans voting for Obama in the states he's carried (which tend to be BTW states that will trend Republican in the general election) as there are Republicans voting for Hillary in the states she's carried. The inflammatory rhetoric that will deliver the election to McCain is coming from both sides in this fight. But, IMHO, they got what they wanted when Edwards was forced to bow out. Of course, all of this is JMHO. Thanks so much for your well considered contribution. You da best. :)

I think Obama has taken the high ground but can't look like he's a punching bag. IF HE'S NOT TOUGH WILL HILLARY, HOW CAN WE EXPECT HIM TO BE THE RIGHT STUFF IN THE INTERNATIONAL ARENA. Toughness is not what we need as much as an open strategy using less military and more soft diplomacy and creative ideas.

I think Obama is a champion who can get knocked down, get up and kick ass. He's showing it now whether Hillary wants to play fair or not. The high road has a way of disarming an opponent.

    LisaB, yeah. You right.

Capt., I'm not so sure. Trying to take the high road didn't work out well for Kerry when he got SwiftBoated. I want to see that BHO knows how to defend himself because he ain't seen nothing yet. JMHO.
